I learned how to effectively use statistics in research. I was able to conduct hands on research using tools like R and NVivo, which proved very useful for school. I’m sure that in my professional life, I will continue to use these programs.

I found it intriguing and helpful for AP statistics. It was especially exciting to learn how to code in a new language, although it'd get frustrating when the code didn't work out all the time. I loved getting to visit the campus and interact with other students at UofT, while also connecting with other highschoolers enrolled in the program.

Being a student investigator and Youreka taught me how to manage deadlines and communicate with my peers effectively. I enjoyed collaborating with my group members and share our findings on our research topic. It was enjoyable to meet new people and hear about other groups and their research at symposium.

As an SI, I was introduced to several new concepts I hadn’t been taught previously. I used them to develop research skills, which are key in several different fields. My favourite part of being an SI was the final presentation, as we were able to display the countless hours of work we put into our project. Youreka definitely made a considerable impact!

Being a Student Investigator improved my communication and presentation skills while giving me hands-on experience in real research. Being able to collaborate on something like that with others was a rewarding feeling when things got done!
Arthur Gamaghelyan, Student Investigator
I had a great time at Youreka. The program really makes research accessible. No need to spend hours searching for opportunities, teammates, etc. We just got to pick a question/prompt and get straight to work.
Thomas Deleuze-Bisson, Student Investigator
The like minded people I got to meet! I also got to take my first step into research.
Rose Baqeri, Student Investigator
Personally, my experience taught me more about myself and my interests. Through trial and error, I got to figure out if various parts of research such as writing the manuscript, coding, making a poster, or presenting were for me. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and encouraged me to accomplish more in other fields of my life. Professionally, the connections that were made, the opportunities that it presented, and the confidence that it instilled in me encouraged me to start my own projects and have experienced members help me out. Overall, it was incredibly beneficial inside and out.
